Where is Peggy’s Cove?

Peggy’s Cove is about 45 minutes west of Halifax, and located on the picturesque Nova Scotia coastline. The drive itself offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged Nova Scotian landscape. Nova Scotia is a Canadian province and located on the western edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

What’s the difference between Peggy’s Cove and the Lighthouse?

While Peggy’s Point Lighthouse is the centerpiece of this quaint village, Peggy’s Cove itself is the larger area encompassing the lighthouse, the surrounding rocks, and the village. The lighthouse, which has been guiding mariners since 1868, is one of the most photographed lighthouses in Canada. It’s no wonder why when you see it! Perched on a rocky outcrop, it offers a perfect backdrop for picturesque views.

Safety at Peggy’s Cove

Safety is paramount when visiting Peggy’s Cove. The black rocks near the lighthouse indicate recent wave activity, so it’s important to keep a safe distance. The ocean can be unpredictable, and rogue waves have the potential to sweep you off their feet. Always stay cautious and adhere to safety guidelines when visiting.

When to Visit Peggy’s Cove?

The best time of year is the summer when it’s warm and sunny. Most of the village shuts down for the winter, and opens from about May to September. I highly recommend visiting during golden hour in the morning, or sunset in the evening. Golden hour is the first hour after sunrise, or the last hour before sunset. I was blessed with a fantastic sunset when I visited in 2019 – see below!
