Parc Omega | The Best Way to see Canadian Wildlife

Parc Omega is an absolute gem less than an hour drive from Ottawa and just under 2 hours from Montreal and such a fun wildlife park

Parc Omega (Omega Park) is an absolute gem. It is less than an hour drive from Ottawa and just under 2 hours from Montreal and such a fun wildlife park! The park is open year round and Parc Omega tickets can be purchased at the gate or online. Sometimes they have Groupon tickets available for a steal but it is worth the full price ticket. The average time spent at Parc Omega is about 3 hours. If you want to make a full day out of the drive, click here to see a full day trip itinerary from Ottawa or Montreal.

Parc Omega Information and Pricing

The park consists of 12 km of outdoor driving trails to enjoy Canadian wildlife in their natural habitat. It has elk, bison, wolves, bears, foxes, birds of prey, deer and more! The park recently welcome three orphan moose. If you have a DSLR or mirrorless camera, I recommend renting a telephoto lens (if you don’t have one). You can rent mine from Ruckify here.

Parc Omega Tickets: Prices range from $30 to $35 per person at the gate. If you can get a groupon, buy your ticket online, or go in the off-season, you can get a discount! You can also get a season pass for about $100 so if you plan on going three or more times in a year, it’s worth it!
Parc Omega Hours: Changes per season. There are day passes and night passes, as well as the opportunity to stay in the Wolf Cabin.
Bring: Carrots to feed the wildlife (you can buy them at the visitors centre).
Parking: There is parking at the visitor centre and the Land of Pioneer’s Attraction but you’ll need to drive your vehicle around the park (or you can rent a golf cart in the summer).
Location: Montebello, Quebec (about one hour from Ottawa)

Upon entering the gate, you’ll receive a safety pamphlet and map of the park as well as the radio station to dial to hear more information about the park. The park itself is well signed with the route and animals but the map is fun to have.

There is a Birds of Prey demonstration as well as Feeding the Wolves at scheduled times of the day. Check out their website and arrive early – it gets busy!

Without further ado, here are some of the wildlife photos I’ve taken at the park!

Parc Omega Day Trip Itinerary

Stop 1: Chutes de Plaisance

This waterfall is 63 ft in elevation, which is higher than Niagara Falls! Don’t be disappointed though: the waterfall in Plaisance, Quebec is a series of falls that IN TOTAL is higher than Niagara falls so it’s still not quite the same. The park (Parc National du Plaisance) has a series of trails to enjoy for a small day price fee ($7), is dog friendly and has parking and outhouses available. This stop is directly on route to Parc Omega if you take Route 50. You can easily spend about an hour here, or you can stop in Montebello to pick up a picnic before stopping at the park.

Stop 2: Fairmont le Chateau Montebello

The Fairmont Montebello has a rustic log cabin charm, where you can grab lunch, dinner or plan to stay overnight. It is the world’s largest log cabin surrounded by nature and hiking trails. UPDATE: Due to COVID-19, the trails and experiences are currently only available to registered guests. This stop is about 6 minutes south of Parc Omega on the Manoir Papineau National Historic Site and the Ottawa River.

Stop 3: Parc des Montagnes Noires de Ripon

Parc des Montagnes Noires de Ripon is 800 acres of forest land in the heart of the area of the Petite-Nation with a 360-degree view from the new observation tower. This would be an absolutely beautiful stop during the fall to see the vibrant fall colours near Ottawa. The observation tower is close to the parking lot but there are tons of trails to explore if you want to spend some time here. This stop is about 30 minutes north of Parc Omega, just past Ripon, Quebec.

Stop 4: Parc Omega

Of course, stop at Parc Omega and see wildlife up close and personal. Give yourself about 3 hours to explore the whole park. To make it a staycation, you can stay overnight in a Parc Omega Wolf Cabin, sleep in pods, a log cabin, a tipi and more!
