Sunflowers are a beautiful yellow flower that typically remind me of the end of summer. There are about 70 species of the flower and sunflower season is between early July and late August in Ontario, Canada. They seem like such a happy flower and actually rotate during the day to face the sun. Visit one of these sunflower fields near Ottawa this summer and enjoy a magical photoshoot. Please be respectful of the farms. Sunflowers are not just pretty flowers to take photos with, they are also some people’s livelihood! UPDATE: This post was updated July 2024.
Wilmead Farms (Cumberland)
There is a huge sunflower field in Cumberland, Ontario on the side of the road and is a huge draw for photographers and influencers alike. The field is located on Dunning Road about 1 km south of the Innes Road/Dunning Road intersection and is a beautiful field of sunflowers on the side of the road. The farmers have left an area cleared for people to walk in to take photos and enjoy the sunflowers, as well as an inlet to take photos (like the one below) in the field. Please be mindful and don’t walk further in to the field to take photos.
When to go: middle to end of July
Cost: free, by donation

Sultan Sunflower Farm Sanctuary (Ashton)
*2024 update: unfortunately not opening this year! This Ashton Sunflower Field is run by a family of seven. The farm and animal sanctuary is located in the far west end of Ottawa with two bloom fields: the south field blooms in early-mid August and the north field blooms in the end of August. The farmers have left space for paths through the fields to enjoy, take photos and wander through a field of yellow.

Cost: free, by donation
Sunny Fields of Gold (Monkland)
Stephanie and Jakob bought a farm and have created a quirky, Instagrammable experience through the sunflower fields. When to go: mid-July to early August
Cost: $15/adult, book a pod for a few hours or half a day

In 2023, the Tincap Berry Farm had a huge sunflower field! They called is the Sunflower Stroll and it had cute photo opportunities, like an old pickup truck, huge hay bails, a couch, and more! I can’t find more information on it for the 2024 season, but hopefully they open it again!
Central Experimental Farm
Another free field and in the heart of Ottawa are the sunflower patches in the Central Experimental Farm on Merivale Road/Baseline Road. NOTE: The sunflowers were not planted in 2022 and I haven’t seen them yet in 2024.
